So\u2026 Noelle was asking WAY too many really in-depth, perceptive questions regarding Santa this year. She was problem solving trying to figure out how it all made sense. One night, she and Mike and I were all talking and she asked, \u201cSo, do the elves make some stuff and does Santa buy some stuff at the store?\u201d because she sees toys all over the stores around Christmas. Mike looked at me and whispered, \u201cShe trusts us to tell her the truth\u2026\u201d and we both knew it was time. But how do you do it? What do you say? We don\u2019t have a parent handbook with different suggestions. I said to Mike, \u201cYou do it!\u201d <\/p>\n
So Mike said, \u201cNoelle, we have a big girl secret to tell you!\u201d She got so excited and Mike went on to say, \u201cSanta Claus is the spirit of Christmas.\u201d She thought about it and then said, \u201cThat\u2019s not a good secret!\u201d so we knew we weren\u2019t going to be let off easy. She was going to make us spell it out for her. So then he said, \u201cSanta is the spirit of giving and love and traditions and what Santa means is loving and caring.\u201d Wow! Pretty well put\u2026 but all he got was a blank stare, so he added, \u201cAnd that\u2019s all Santa means.\u201d Lol! We couldn\u2019t bring ourselves to say it. She looked so confused, so I finally blurted out, \u201cSanta isn\u2019t real!\u201d And we just sat there like a deer in headlights to see what came next.<\/p>\n
The first thing she said was, \u201cThen who ate the cookies?\u201d I said, \u201cI did!\u201d She said, \u201cWell, then why didn\u2019t you eat all of them? Oh did you think they had too much sugar?\u201d I said, \u201cYes\u201d and she said, \u201cThat makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n
And then she looked us in the eyes and said, \u201cI promise I\u2019ll take good care of the secret!\u201d And that was it. She\u2019s going to have a blast playing Santa with us for Anna Kate and Rose next year. We\u2019re even going to let her stay up with us and get all of the toys out. She will LOVE that, although, we won\u2019t put hers out until she goes to bed\u2026 <\/p>\n
