Happy Father’s Day!

June 16th, 2013

2013-06-16 16.14.01 2013-06-16 16.15.55

I thought this card was perfect for the dad of three special little girls!  Cheers to a day of celebrating Mike who is the best, most patient, gentle, caring, wise and consistently honest and sweet dad I could ever dream of for our children!  If every little girl in the world had a dad like Mike, this world would be a better, stronger and healthier place.  It’s my dream that every little girl feels the love of our father God on this special day that we remember dads!

Happy Father’s Day to Poppa and Grandpapa too, who have shaped us into who we are as adults today.  I can say Mike and I always strive to do good, and be true to ourselves and our consciences in all of our decisions as parents, soul mates, family members and friends.  All of our experiences have taught us compassion and empathy, to stand up for what’s right and true, and I’m proud of our dads today for all they have done for us to help us become the parents we are today.

And although Mike and I are life-long learners and not perfect, we strive to take good care of our girls in the best way we know how every single day.  Some days we get it right, and others we wish we could have a re-do, but all of the days mixed together mold our children into learning how to be honest, say they are sorry when they have done wrong, and hopefully show others love, compassion and thankfulness because they have seen our examples for their entire lives.  We mess up, we fall short, but deep down, we are always wanting to get it right and be genuinely good… and somewhere along the way, it is my prayer that we’ll look back and say, we made the most of every moment with these beautiful angels God has entrusted to our care.

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there!

Rose’s First Haircut!

June 15th, 2013

IMG_0220

Our Rose has the prettiest baby features!  I kiss her cheeks every single day!  Her eyes dance around the room looking for mischief, and I get so tickled watching her every move.  This is a milestone, but it feels like yesterday that she was born.  When I talk about her to people that don’t know her, I refer to her as “Baby Rose.”  They ask me how old my baby is, and I say 2 1/2.  They look confused, but I just say, “She will always be my baby Rose!”  Sadly, it’s more like “toddler Rose,” but we will never take the baby out of Rose!

IMG_0218-001

She was such a good girl and did such a great job!  She looked down, and from side to side, as she was instructed; I was so proud of her!  This is a picture of her looking up at the lady that was cutting her hair, when she told Rose to put her head to the side.  Sweet.baby.Rose.

IMG_0224 IMG_0228

When we ask Rose to smile, she does this silly crooked smile to be silly!  Here she is with her happy smile because of that yellow sticky thing about to be flung all over the place… literally!  I’ll never forget Rose at 2 1/2 because although she is a handful, she is the spring to our step, and the most adorable/affectionate baby I have ever met!

We love you, sweet baby Rose!  You are precious in every single way!  Daddy and I talk about you ALL the time and can’t wait to tell each other Rose stories as they happen.  When you get into trouble, you hunch your little back, roll your shoulders to the floor with your head just hanging down in shame.  You huff and puff and say, “I so sorry!”  Then you look up and grin at us… and we all can’t help but giggle at your cuteness.

You love playing monster!  That is by far your favorite game!  You say, “Roar!” and hold up your hands like a monster and try to scare us, and we pretend like we are scared.  You laugh and laugh!  And then you say, “Nake” (snake) and point at the floor, and we all scream and jump like there is a snake on the ground.  You literally squeal with delight that we are playing along.  And then we pretend to scare you and you shiver and say, “I cared, I cared!” (I scared, I scared)

You LOVE water and drinks in general!  You call anything in a cup, your “cups.”  You ask for a “cups” all the time.  Tonight you said, “More sips in my cups!” but it is usually just, “I want my cups!”  You’ve gotten in the habit of calling me “Na-ne!”  You scream it from another room when you want me.  Noelle used to do that when she was a toddler.  It’s really strange, but really cute!  We have a picture of you as a baby on your tummy in our breakfast room.  Since you are on your tummy, you think you fell down in the picture, so you always look up at it and say, “Uh oh!  Rose fall down!” and you point up to your picture.  I try to tell you that you were a baby just laying on your tummy, but you insist that you fell down, so I play along and say, “Uh oh!  Sorry for your ouchie, Rose!” and you pout and put out your bottom lip and say, “Kiss, Na-ne, kiss!”

I could tell Rose stories all day long… there are new ones every day!  You are the life of the party; we are CRAZY about you, sweet baby Rose!  You’re so much fun to live life with, and we are tickled pink you are our third awesome girl!  Way to grow, lol!

Urban Campout

This is how we camp out, urban style, lol!  Noelle is 7, Anna Kate is 4, and Rose is 2.

IMG_0015 IMG_0040

Can anyone spot the lizard in the picture with the girls?  I saw it in the lens but didn’t tell them because they would have freaked out, lol!  Noelle took this sweet picture of Mike and me!  She even asked if she could!  We should let her take our picture together more often!

IMG_0036 IMG_0022

I love Rose’s surprised look at Anna Kate about something in the right picture… and how zoned out she was in the left pic!

The girls are always so excited to see Georgia and Mia!  The girls enjoyed their hot dog picnic supper.

Noelle wanted a picture of the Pond girls with Daddy to give him on Father’s Day, but this is how it turned out.  Sorry, Noelle!  We tried.  We try to take Rose’s tantrums in stride… it’s all part of growing up, but you totally forget how hard consistency is with a two-year old until you’re smack dab in the middle of it!  Thank God we have Mike… he has patience like no other!

IMG_0133 IMG_0126

Noelle, Julia and Rose went to “camp-out” in the Key’s tent!  That’s as close as we’re getting for now.  Winking smile

IMG_0136 IMG_0139

I never want to forget how Anna Kate carries around her pretend cell phone in this winter hat tied at the top.  She has the most creative ideas that are so random!  She thinks outside the box like no other kid I’ve ever seen!  Mia is so good being the big girl on our street; she’s always helping the little ones and being a little Momma Mia!

IMG_0141

Rose is happy again… with a marshmallow from her s’more she wanted to dive into.  I thought it’d be funny to take her picture by this tent, because, like I said, this is as close as we’re getting to camping for a long time!

Mike was awesome to cook all of our food while I watched the girls play.  It was hot over there; thanks Daddy!

The big girls played in the Key’s tent for a long time.  They loved it!  I did too because it was easier for me to keep up with everyone, lol!

IMG_0168

The girls enjoyed having fun with the iPad and their super yummy desserts before the big movie got started!

IMG_0169 IMG_0171

Georgia and Noelle IMG_0183

The girls have so much fun at neighborhood gatherings!  Everyone has someone to play with.  It’s such a blessing!

IMG_0186 anna kate and her petting zoo

Once the movie came on, everyone got cozy with their families (after the children enjoyed watching their shadows on the big screen during the previews).  Anna Kate created her very own “petting zoo” with water, grass, wood chips, dirt, and snails.  All the kids kept coming over asking her if they could pet her snails.  She took her caretaker of the petting zoo job very seriously, and helped everyone who wanted a turn.  She’s so funny!

IMG_0190 IMG_0191

Rose, Katie and Ella got to hang out together for a second while as the movie was getting started!  They are still a little too young to full out play together, but it’s so fun having girls Rose’s age in our neighborhood!

This was such a great night of family packed action and fun!  Thanks to Chris Jenkins and the social committee for putting on such a fun kick-off to summer party for all of us to enjoy!  It was such a great idea to have an “Urban Campout” even if we weren’t brave enough to stay the night… just yet!  Winking smile

The shoot behind the cover…

June 12th, 2013

Screen Shot 2013-05-19 at 2.43.10 PM Screen Shot 2013-05-19 at 2.43.37 PM

Long story… I was in a photo shoot November 2012 for the Vintage Couture Spring 2013 catalog.  I woke up at 6AM for the shoot the day we got back from Curt’s funeral.  Our plane got delayed the night before, so we didn’t get home until 1:15 that night… and fell asleep about an hour after that.  I remember thinking there was no way I was going to have the strength/energy to do the shoot, but I knew they were counting on me.  I’ll never forget how insanely tired I felt during this photo shoot, how tight my dress was, the pressing pain behind my eyes, but I thought hearing my story behind the cover would be a testimony that things don’t always look as bright and sunny as they seem.  Enjoy the beautiful pictures, and giggle knowing they are just make-believe!  Winking smile

DPP_0022 DPP_0023

DPP_0032

The girls were obviously very concerned and confused to see their Mommy with another family when the style guide came out this spring!  We talked a lot about acting for a job, and how it’s really fun to pretend to be someone you’re not for a story or a play or even modeling.  After a lot of processing, they began to get really excited I did something different and fun, and eventually wanted to show everyone that came over how silly it was that Mommy pretended to be a part of a pretend family that doesn’t exist.

DPP_0040

This next group of pictures is amazing to me, because it looks like our “mother/daughter” love is so real and strong.  I literally met this sweet little girl 30 minutes before this picture was taken.  She put a lot of trust in me to hold her on this bridge with water below, and I was just relaxing, thinking about my little blessings at home.  And that I was actually there, but yesterday, was in California grieving my friend.  It was such a weird feeling.  I was here, there, everywhere, no where… in a place I’d never been.  In one section of the garden, they were cleaning up pumpkins from Halloween, in another section, they were putting up Christmas, and in our section, we were hunting Easter eggs and playing with spring flowers.  It was so wacky!  The weather was beautiful too, so it really did feel like Easter in November!

DPP_1278 DPP_1251

Honestly, I kept thinking about Curt this entire morning; wondering if he got to peek in and smile at the irony of it all.  Curt was alive, and I was in California taking family photos of them a few weeks prior, when I found out all three of the Pond girls were chosen to be in the casting call for this photo shoot!  That just means you get to come try on their sample clothes and if they fit and you’re the right person for the job, you get to model!  I was running around the Ziemke house, so excited all the girls were going to get to have fun trying on beautiful clothes that were top secret for the spring.  Turns out, when we were at the casting call, they asked me to try on this dress, and one thing led to another.  They didn’t have spots for our girls this season (they had other models their same age/size they’ve used before, and they get first priority), but they asked me if I would model for them.  At first, I thought, “No way!” because it’s really out of my comfort zone, but then I started thinking (they gave me time to think about it), “I need to be a confident example of the way I want my girls to feel about themselves… I need to take the lead on being thankful for the way I look and comfortable in my skin.”  So… this was a comfort challenge for me as much as it was a fun thing!  I had something to prove to myself.  And I knew Curt would be grinning and giggling at how the whole thing turned out.  I wanted to make him proud.  He would’ve made me do it!

DPP_1304 DPP_1321

And once I relaxed, it was actually a whole lot of fun!  This was my cute pretend son picking some flowers for me that he just got out of the bag from Kroger!  You’d never guess!  That was the fun thing about seeing everything behind the scenes!  They were super creative with their props, locations… and made everything fun and easy!

DPP_1333 DPP_1334

DPP_1357

I don’t remember what was so funny!  No clue.  And I don’t think I throw my head back normally when I laugh.  Who knew?

DPP_1406

They gave me so many images of myself in the garden to keep.  That was really cool to me, because I have very few pictures of myself.  I think the girls might really enjoy seeing what their younger Mom looked like someday when they are mothers.  I know I would!  The ones I’ve seen of my mom when she was my age are incredible.  I wish I had more!  She has always been totally gorgeous!!!  I wonder if all little girls think their mom is the prettiest woman in the world?  I know I do about mine!

DPP_1435

Although I would give anything for these pictures to have been with one of my girls, it’s all part of the job.  I think seeing these pictures makes us all a little sad, even though they probably make everyone else feel happy!  That’s the mystery of photography/marketing/acting… you never really know what’s going on behind the scene.  That’s what enticed me to do this in the first place.  I was so curious how a VC photo shoot would work; what it would look like.  I wanted to observe the photographer for positioning, timing/any photo tips I could learn while he was clicking away.  I wanted to see who designed the sets, who told us where to smile, who told us how to pose, how many people would be a part of it… I was so interested in all the behind the scenes logistics.

DPP_1440 DPP_1421

DPP_1458

Their little model and I did have a unique chemistry… for me, when I held her, she felt exactly like Anna Kate, same size and shape, so it was natural to be all lovey dovey, because I’m usually hugging someone this exact same size.  And she was so cute, sweet and nice!  We were little kindred spirits for our time together.  You can just tell a good person when you meet one, and this little girl is going to be great!  Her happiness, ease in front of the camera, and positive attitude was definitely contagious!

I’ve gone back and forth for almost 6 months now whether I should post these pictures or not… but I finally decided it would be interesting for you all to see; to see a real example that you can’t read a book by the cover; that pictures don’t always tell the whole story.  That although our life sometimes might look perfect in the pictures on our blog; it’s not.  I mean, these pictures look like she is my child, and that is farthest from the truth.  Pictures exist for different reasons… these modeling pictures were created to tell a story that I think they successfully told in order to evoke an emotion in those that see them to buy these beautiful clothes so that you can be this happy little family too.  I hope it worked, and they sold a lot of our dresses this spring!  But that’s it.  We were just evoking emotions in people to sell dresses.  We were pretending.  We were acting.  We were modeling.

I want everyone to know that our blog pictures are created to spread the true, genuine love that we share, but every now and then, there might be pain behind the happy pictures too (like the fact that I had just come from Curt’s funeral in the above pictures).  We might be smiling through a storm… we might be making the most of a terrible week.  You just never know the whole story unless you are living it.  So, don’t read into our pictures and let them get you down that your life should be anything different than what it is (that’s the last thing we’d want).  Take them at face value, and live your truth being confident in yourself too; even if it is out of your comfort zone.

We love our family!  We love our life!  But we are normal, and we have pain and sadness that we work through as well.  No one is perfect.  No one has it all together.  But we all try to cope and make the most of everything, the best that we can, right?  I hope everyone has a great week, enjoying all the blessings and happiness that you find in your life!

*Since I wrote this, Vintage Couture has announced that they are going out of business.  I’m so sad… everyone at headquarters were so warm and friendly.  My heart goes out to them.  This is one of my favorite lines of clothing!  To shop their going out of business sale or to see the entire style guide for the spring,  go to www.vintagecoutureinc.com.  Under the Shop Now tab, click Spring 2013 Style Guide to check out all of the spring fashions.  You will see some of the spring lines on our girls this summer!  This is a great brand of creative and quality U.S. made clothing!

Our Tenacious Two Year Old

And then we pretend to scare you and you shiver and say, “I cared, I cared!” (I scared, I scared)  It’s a really fun game, and you made it up!

Here’s a picture of Noelle on the first day of 1st grade on August 27, 2012, and the last day of 1st grade on June 6, 2013!

IMG_0463 IMG_0475

I love her spunky attitude and happy self-confidence!  She’s the most compassionate kid you will ever meet, and is incredibly beautiful, on the inside and out.  I’m so excited to be a part of Noelle’s life… it’s so bright!

IMG_0477 IMG_0481

We met some sweet friends at Braum’s on the last day of school.  Noelle had her first banana split, and she ate the whole thing! (we had to get a new one with no nuts… we asked for no nuts, but you know how that goes)

IMG_0498 IMG_0486

Here’s Noelle with Gabby, Carson, and Jovie!  They were so excited to kiss 1st grade goodbye!  I was very sentimental.  My biggest baby is growing up too fast!  1st grade sounds okay, 2nd grade sounds like 12th, lol!  I want to freeze time.  I’m loving these awesome elementary school days with Noelle.  The littles are going to love elementary school, and you know I’ll be right there with them every step of the way!

Noelle, I am so excited to have you home for summer, sweetheart!  You’re such an awesome daughter and friend!  We’re going to have a blast this summer, and don’t worry, I’ve got lots of books and crafts to keep you busy during the afternoon when the littles are asleep.  Love ya!  xoxo

End of 1st Grade Party!

June 10th, 2013

Noelle’s grade had such a fun end of school party this year!  Noelle and Georgia got in the same group to do all the stations together, and since they aren’t in the same class, they were so excited!

Cute girls!  First grade had to wear P.E. shoes (tennis shoes) every day last week, but by Wednesday, Noelle was done.  She wore her tennis shoes to school, and after P.E., she took these silver sparkly shoes to change into (she slipped them in her back pack; we didn’t know, lol).  That’s our Noelle!

IMG_0410

My voice was completely gone today, but I had fun watching Noelle goof off and play with her friends!  John and Nancy gave her her dress the day before at the hospital for her birthday, so she had to wear it to school today.  So sweet and cute!

In the lobby at the hospital, they had a self-playing piano.  This is the first time the girls have ever seen one.  They were amazed!

IMG_0341

After John came in the waiting room and announced Saylor’s name and all the exciting birth details, we had a late lunch in the hospital cafeteria to let her get all bathed and fed, and then it was time to meet baby Saylor!  The girls were ooh-ing and ahh-ing, and it was so sweet!

1st Grade Awards Ceremony

June 8th, 2013

IMG_0259 IMG_0251

It’s time to spend some time bragging on Noelle, because she has worked so incredibly hard this year at school!  She got 8 awards at her awards ceremony on Monday!  Here she is with her favorite teacher in the entire earth (her words), Mrs. Biggerstaff, after she presented Noelle with the character award she entitled, “The Above and Beyond Award.”  She said during the awards presentation that Noelle will go far in life because of the way she does everything with all her heart!  This is one happy girl right here, with one amazing teacher we will never forget and can’t thank enough for such an incredible year!!!

IMG_0253

I love to go to all of the special events for Noelle, and she loves having me with her!  I hope that never changes!

IMG_0244 IMG_0246

Out of the entire class, Noelle got the “Top Speller” award.  Spelling comes very naturally for Noelle.  She actually never missed a word the entire year, including the bonuses.  Her spelling average was 110!  She worked hard on spelling at school, but we didn’t have to go over her words very much at home (Friday mornings while I was doing her hair).  She’s a natural!  This is the award that she really really wanted, and she was very nervous she wasn’t going to get it.  I told her she might tie with someone, but that she can’t do better than perfect, so she has to get the award… but still, her stomach was in knots!  I love this smile on her face… pure satisfaction on a job well done.  After school, she told me, “Mom, now it’s my goal to be the best speller next year too!”  She’s already motivated to work hard at school next year.  I’m so proud of her attitude to want to do well and be successful.  This was the first time I think she truly felt that, and I know she was so proud, which is awesome, because she is building confidence in herself and her ability to achieve whatever she puts her mind to doing!  After I took this picture, I think Mrs. Biggerstaff thought Noelle was going to sit down, but instead, she dove in and gave her the biggest hug!  She was so happy; it was awesome!

IMG_0247 IMG_0249

Carson and Noelle won the Computer award for being the most computer savvy… the school computer teacher, Mrs. Clark, awarded two kids per class with the computer award.  Noelle does know a whole lot about technology, thanks to her amazing Daddy!  Congrats girls!

Chloe, Ayah, Noelle and Carson were happy little girls after their awards ceremony!

Noelle blossomed this year!  Last year, was an unbelievable challenge for all of us due to her kindergarten experience, but this year was the total opposite, thank God!  Not only did she blow us away with her academics (she also got the top reading award they gave to the top 4 best readers), but she gained self-confidence in that she is important and special at school, to her teachers and her peers.  She began leading and teaching, instead of cowering away in fear.  I use such strong comparison language, because I want you to know how far we’ve come.  We don’t take one award of hers for granted.  She truly worked hard in every area to gain trust and respect.  She’s a kind, gentle, patient, and lovely little girl, and we are blessed beyond measure to have her as our daughter!  With all of that being said, I wanted to share some words of encouragement her teacher wrote to us, as a testimony to her awesome year in 1st grade!

To me:

I love your girl.  You have done a great job raising her.  She is wonderful.  God knew that I needed her this year.  Noelle has been a blessing.  I will not forget your family.
Thank you for your kindness.

To Mike:

I just loved having Noelle in my class.  She is a beautiful girl, inside and out. I will miss her!

It really does take a village to raise a child, and we are so grateful for Mrs. Biggerstaff and Mrs. Arnold, for the positive examples they have been to Noelle this year!  Our girl is happy, smart, loving and my biggest prayer answered, confident!

Keep up the good work, Noelle!  This is only the beginning… with all of our hearts, we love you to the moon and back, forever and always!
